TV best bets: Mon., Nov. 14

8 p.m., FOX: Gotham — In the aftermath of the tragedy that occurred at the engagement party for Lee and Mario (Morena Baccarin, guest star James Carpinello), Barnes (Michael Chiklis) is very much on Gordon and Bullock‘s (Ben McKenzie and Donal Logue) radar in the new episode “Mad City — The Executioner.” Worried about Isabella (guest star Chelsea Spack), Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) seeks information from Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor).

8 p.m., HBO: Underfire: The Untold Story of Pfc. Tony Vaccaro — When Tony Vaccaro began his term of service as a combat infantryman during World War II, he smuggled a portable camera into battle and thus captured an intimate, comprehensive record of life on the front lines. While he started out eagerly documenting the war, however, once it was over he vowed never to take another combat photo, horrified by what he had seen. Filmmaker Max Lewkowicz‘s new documentary explores ways in which photography defines how the public perceives a war.

9 p.m., FOOD NETWORK: Cake Wars — The Christmas edition of this baking competition kicks off with “Christmas — Santa‘s Makeover,” the first of six yuletide-themed battles among seven teams, each composed of a cake artist, a sugar sculptor and a master food carver. The first round finds them tackling the worst gift under the Christmas tree, followed by a round that tasks them with giving St. Nick his first image makeover in centuries.

10:01 p.m., NBC: Timeless — The title of the new episode “The Watergate Tape” gives a definite indication of the relatively modern period that Lucy, Wyatt and Rufus (Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett) travel back to.
